Panel Unanimously Approves Brock as Secretary of Labor
WASHINGTON — The nomination of outgoing U.S. trade representative William E. Brock III to be secretary of labor was unanimously approved Wednesday by the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee. Committee Chairman Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) said that he expected the full Senate to consider Brock’s nomination today.
Brock, a former senator from Tennessee and Republican National Committee chairman who has held the Cabinet-level trade post since 1981, would succeed Raymond J. Donovan. Donovan resigned last month after a judge in New York ordered him to stand trial on fraud and larceny charges.
