Community College Baseball : Repoz’s 2-Out, Ninth-Inning Hit Lifts Fullerton Over Mt. SAC, 7-6
Craig Repoz’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Fullerton College a 7-6 South Coast Conference victory over Mt. San Antonio College at Fullerton Saturday.
Fullerton, which had trailed, 6-5, going into the ninth inning, tied the game when Tim Speakman doubled in a run. Speakman had three hits on the day.
Rob DeYoung, a freshman right-handed reliever for the Hornets, improved his record to 4-2. DeYoung had entered the game in the top of the ninth inning for the Hornets.
Fullerton raised its record to 8-8 in conference and 22-14 overall, while Mt. SAC fell to 6-10 and 16-13.
Fullerton hosts Cerritos Tuesday.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Golden West 6, Santa Ana 4--Keith Kaub’s three-run homer in the eighth inning gave the Rustlers the lead for good at Huntington Beach.
Andy Mota went 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Rustlers, and Gary Buckels (3-0) picked up the win.
Gary Thomason once again led Santa Ana, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Golden West (11-5 and 20-6) hosts Compton Tuesday. Santa Ana’s record fell to 8-8 and 21-11.
Cerritos 13, Cypress 1--Scott Wilkinson, a sophomore center fielder, went 4 for 5 with five RBIs, including two home runs, to power Cerritos to the win at Cypress.
Wilkinson hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning and a three-run homer in the ninth.
Cerritos is 15-1 and 27-3.
Saddleback 24, Compton 3--The Gauchos’ 13-hit attack led them to a win at Mission Viejo.
Joe Holden hit two home runs, driving in a total of five runs, and Steve Nichols drove in three runs as well for the Gauchos.
John Sinclair (7-3) was the winning pitcher.
Saddleback (7-9 and 14-13) plays host to Mt. SAC on Tuesday.
