Husband Killer Gets Probation
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A Long Island mother of six who shot and killed her husband after years of mental and physical abuse was sentenced today to five years probation.
Suffolk County Court Judge Stuart Namm, saying it was “the toughest decision I’ve been called on to make in my nine years on the bench, “ ordered Dolores Young, 49, of Hampton Bays to check into a sanctuary for abused wives in Manhattan. At a pre-sentencing hearing last month, Young’s children testified that their father, Robert Young, 47, had continually beaten them and their mother with belts, coat hangers and fists, and had conducted “psychological warfare” against them.
