San Diego Prep Baseball : Scott Happ Leaves Poway Hapless, 5-0
SAN DIEGO — Scott Happ, a Mount Carmel High School senior, had pitched only five innings total prior to Thursday’s Palomar League game against Poway at Mount Carmel High.
But Happ allowed only three hits over full seven innings in shutting out the Titans, 5-0, for his first victory of the season.
“Our pitching staff was tired,” said Ed O’Connor, Mt. Carmel assistant coach. “(David) Schiesser and (Dean) Siskowski each threw over 60 pitches on Tuesday in that game against Fallbrook.”
Mount Carmel used three pitchers in a 14-10 win against Fallbrook Tuesday. Thursday’s win improved the third-ranked Sundevils to 11-1, 19-6. Mount Carmel’s Miah Bradbury hit his eighth and ninth homer of the season and had four RBIs on Thursday. Poway is 4-7, 13-11.
In other Palomar League games:
Vista 6, Fallbrook 1--Frank Wyant pitched a complete game one-hitter to lead Vista (9-3, 16-7) to the win at Vista High. Roger Price’s double highlighted Vista’s five-run second inning. The Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the third. Fallbrook (4-8, 13-13) scored in the fifth to break Wyant’s shutout. Matt Sprint had three hits for Vista and Price added two.
Torrey Pines 7, Orange Glen 3--The Falcons (6-5, 12-12) moved into third place, ahead of Orange Glen, with the win at Orange Glen. The Patriots are 6-6, 13-11.
AVOCADO LEAGUE San Marcos 11, Escondido 2--Keith Pollins allowed just two hits and two unearned runs in gaining the complete-game win for San Marcos at San Marcos High. Mike Ponio led San Marcos’ 12-hit attack, going 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs. It was Ponio’s third home run of the season. John Rowe added a home run for San Marcos (10-2, 18-6). Escondido is 6-6, 10-14.
San Pasqual 13, Carlsbad 2--Sixth-ranked San Pasqual improved its record to 11-1, 20-3 and remained in first place in the with the win a San Pasqual. Carlsbad (5-6, 8-13) is in fourth place.
Ramona 10, Oceanside 1--Brad Berry allowed just three hits in pitching the complete-game victory for Ramona (3-9, 7-14) at Ramona High. Tommy Marks led the 10-hit attack for Ramona, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Eric Van Patten was 2 for 3. Oceanside dropped to 3-8, 3-18.
