Honeywell halted deliveries of MK-46 torpedoes.

The contractor for the Navy torpedo voluntarily stopped deliveries a week ago after discovering small cracks in an electronic component supplied by a subcontractor, a company official said. Kenneth Jenson, vice president and general manager of Honeywell’s underseas systems division, said the tiny cracks in a special diode had been discovered by the company before any of the affected torpedoes were delivered. He added that the problem was traced to a batch of the components supplied by a subcontractor and that shipments of the weapon would resume sometime in June. He declined to identify the subcontractor. The MK-46 can be fired from surface vessels, airplanes or helicopters.
