USFL Roundup : Outlaws Keep Hopes Alive, 28-21
Doug Williams completed 15 of 30 passes for 217 yards as the Arizona Outlaws withstood a late Oakland rally Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz., to beat the Invaders, 28-21, and keep their slim playoffs hopes alive.
The Outlaws raised their record to 7-9. The Invaders, who could have clinched the Western Conference title with a victory and a Denver loss, dropped to 11-4-1.
Portland 27, Tampa Bay 24--Matt Robinson threw touchdown passes of 24 and 39 yards to wide receiver Nolan Franz to lead the Breakers (5-11) past the Bandits (9-7) at Portland, Ore.
Birmingham 14, Baltimore 7--Cliff Stoudt hit Jim Smith with a pair of touchdown passes at Birmingham, Ala., as the Stallions (12-4) solidified their position atop the USFL’s Eastern Conference. The Stars are 8-7-1.
