Cost of Living Up Slightly in May in West Germany

WIESBADEN, West Germany — West Germany’s cost-of-living index registered 121.2 in May, up 0.1% from its April level and up 2.5% from May, 1984, the federal statistics office said.
The year-to-year rise matched increases of 2.5% in April and March, the federal agency said.
The final cost-of-living figures are down slightly from the federal agency’s preliminary estimate that called for an 0.2% rise from April and a 2.7% gain from May, 1984.
The preliminary estimate is based on information from four of West Germany’s 11 states.
The statistics office also reported that West Germany’s retail price index registered 118.1 at the end of May, up 0.3% from April and up 2% from May, 1984.
