The Jewish Defense League’s Irving Rubin has filed a $4.5-million suit against Dr. George Ashley claiming that the retired schoolteacher libeled him by saying that “Irv Rubin bombed my home” after an explosion at Ashley’s Northridge home last May 15. The Los Angeles Superior Court suit also alleges that Ashley, a board member of the Institute for Historical Review, libeled and defamed the JDL national chairman in statements made during interviews on Channel 9’s “Mid-Morning L.A.” television shows May 21 and 22. After the explosion at his home, Ashley said that he had received phone calls saying that the JDL claimed responsibility for the blast. Rubin denied any JDL involvement and accused Ashley and the police of planting the bomb to discredit the league. Ashley gained notoriety for his views that Jewish deaths at the hands of the Nazis were greatly exaggerated.
