A hijacking attempt was made on an Air Cal jetliner with 87 passengers aboard as it was on its landing approach to San Francisco International Airport, the airline revealed. The plane landed, and John Procunier, 24, of Orinda was taken into custody, FBI spokesman John Holford said. Air Cal officials said Procunier told the crew that he had explosives in his luggage and wanted the plane to alter its course. The pilot landed and taxied to a remote area, where the passengers were deplaned. A search team using dogs failed to find any explosives. Procunier was in the custody of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department for observation. The Sunday flight originated in Los Angeles.
