Los Angeles police investigators searched Tuesday for the killer of a 22-year-old Van Nuys man who died six days after he was clubbed over head during an argument outside a Van Nuys pool hall.

Simon Lopez died last Friday morning at County-USC Medical Center after complaining of persistent headaches since the July 19 fight, said Detective Dan Riehl.

Lopez apparently become involved about 1 a.m. in an argument inside a pool room at the corner of Victory Boulevard and Fulton Avenue, police said. Witnesses told police the two began fighting in a nearby parking lot and Lopez was hit over the head with a baseball bat or a large wooden club, Riehl said.

Two days later, Lopez was admitted to Olive View Mid-Valley Hospital after complaining of headaches. The next day he was transferred to County-USC Medical Center, where he was found to have internal bleeding in the head, Riehl said.

Police are questioning people in the neighborhood in an attempt to find the killer, but so far “no one seems to be willing to come forward,” Riehl said.
