Six social service agencies will split $130,000 in federal funds if the City Council approves the grants at its meeting tonight.

Cash from the federal Community Development Block Grant is dispersed by the city annually after public hearings to determine the most pressing needs in the city. The biggest slice--$45,000--would go to Pride Development Council, a nonprofit day-care center which caters to low-income families.

Neo-Tech Institution, which offers unemployed, low-income residents free training in electro-mechanical assembly jobs, would get $32,000. The cash is expected to provide about 24 hours of training for 20 people.

Grants of $20,000 each would go to Heritage Orange County and the Delhi Community Center. Heritage undertakes rehabilitation of historical Santa Ana homes and the community center provides such services as counseling, recreation and referrals for residents living south of Warner Avenue and east of Main Street.

Another $8,000 is earmarked for the Orange County Consolidated Transportation Service Agency, which provides transport for the city’s senior citizens. Catholic Social Service would get $5,000 to help cover the salary of one staffer in the organization’s efforts to provide nutritional, legal and other services to low-income people throughout the city.
