2 Men, 1 a Heart Attack Victim, Die on Orange County Roadways
Two men were dead after unrelated, single-car accidents in Orange County Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Peter Kozak, 50, died when he suffered a heart attack about 8:40 p.m. Monday as he drove north on Newport Avenue in East Tustin, said Paul Caldwell, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. Kozak, of Santa Ana, drifted off the street, hit a telephone pole and came to a halt after hitting a brick wall, Caldwell said.
Arriving paramedics attempted to revive the victim using cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transported him to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He was declared dead on arrival.
The second accident occurred about 2 a.m. Tuesday when a 30-year-old North Hollywood man veered off the southbound San Diego Freeway just north of the Bushard Street underpass in Fountain Valley.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, suffered fatal injuries when his car struck a tree, Caldwell said. He was declared dead at the scene. Investigators estimate his car was traveling about 65 m.p.h. on impact.
