A nude woman, “maniacally slashed and possibly a rape victim,” according to police, was discovered by a school custodian lying in the yard of the Menlo Avenue Elementary School, 4156 S. Menlo Ave. Southwest Division Homicide Detective Gilbert Freese said the woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, may have fled to the school yard and climbed a seven-foot fence before being caught by her assailant. “The school yard was locked up and there are no holes in the fence,” Freese said. The woman, reported in critical condition and comatose at County-USC Medical Center, was listed as Jane Doe, detectives said, because no clothing or identification was found at the crime scene.
