Mary Decker Slaney withdrew from the West Berlin track and field meet less than 24 hours after breaking the women’s world record in the mile.
Organizers of today’s event said that Slaney had slightly injured her Achilles’ tendon while setting the world mark of 4 minutes 16.71 seconds at Zurich, Switzerland.
