The Region : Campground Reopened

The Angeles National Forest campground, closed for a week because of a bubonic plague scare, has been reopened, the U.S. Department of Forests announced. The campground, just off the Angeles Crest Highway near the Los Angeles-San Bernardino county line, was closed after Los Angeles County health officials discovered a dead squirrel infected with the plague. Fleas transmit the highly contagious disease to squirrels and, while the 115-unit campground was closed, the area was treated with a pesticide to kill the fleas.
