OLDIES BUT MOVIES

Motown Productions is in post-production on what it calls “a new art form”--a 45-minute, “mini-movie” music video in which classic Motown hit songs are woven into the story line. The first, “Motown’s Mustang,” will be released this spring through MCA Home Video.

It tells the story of a 1965 Ford Mustang, from assembly line to the present, as well as its owners, the history and music of two decades, using original masters from Motown recordings. Mark Robinson (the “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” video) directed and Ed Lachman (“Desperately Seeking Susan”) was the cinematographer.

Burl Hechtman, director of home entertainment programming for Motown Productions, said at least three other “mini-movies” are planned, including “time capsules” with Motown music of the 1960s and 1970s. Sound-track albums will be released simultaneously.
