If the defending Western Football Conference champion Portland State Vikings gag at the mere mention of potatoes, please forgive them.

Last season they were walloped by Idaho, 49-14, in a non-conference game, and Saturday the other Famous Potato institution, Idaho State, handed the Vikings a 23-10 defeat in another non-conference game.

The Bengals pounded Portland on the ground. They piled up 293 rushing yards to only 114 for Portland State, wearing the Vikings down and scoring 13 points in the final quarter.
