The Board of Supervisors has approved a disposition and development agreement, a ground lease and loan agreements for construction of the first private redevelopment in the Willowbrook area in more than 20 years.
The agreements for construction of a $23.5-million, 172,500-square-foot shopping center are between the Community Development Commission and Willowbrook Shopping Center Partnership, consisting of Alexander Haagen Development Co. and the Watts Labor Commmunity Action Committee.
Included in the center are a market, drug store, junior department store and shops, on a 14-acre site bounded by the Century Freeway right-of-way, Willowbrook and Wilmington avenues and 119th Street. Construction is expected to begin no later than next March.
