Tropical Storm Gloria, born off the coast of Africa last week, gathered enough strength to become the fifth hurricane of the 1985 Atlantic season as it headed toward the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands, forecasters said in Miami. The storm maintained maximum winds of 75 m.p.h. for much of the day.
