Houston Rolls to 49-27 Win Over Louisville With Three Touchdowns in Second Quarter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Michael Simmons and Sloan Hood each ran for two touchdowns Saturday night to lead Houston to a 49-27 victory over Louisville for the Cougars’ first victory in three games this season.
The game was tied, 14-14, after one period, but Houston scored three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 35-14 lead at halftime.
Ed Rubbert threw a 12-yard pass to Ernest Givins to open the scoring for Louisville (1-3). But Houston put together a 10-play, 80-yard drive, capped by Simons’ 9-yard run.
Louisville again went ahead as Rubbert scored from a yard out to make it 14-7.
But Houston then scored the next three touchdowns on a 12-yard pass from Gerald Landry to Carl Hilton, a 56-yard run by Simmons and a 1-yard run by Landry to lead, 35-14, at the half.
