Tunisia called on the Security Council today to “vigorously condemn” Israel’s bombing raid on PLO headquarters in Tunis and force the Jewish state to pay reparations.

Tunisian Foreign Minister Beji Caid Essebsi repeated his contention that Israel committed a “blatant act of aggression” against his country in order to sabotage Middle East peace efforts.

“Nothing can justify this act of terrorism” against Tunisia, a country that has condemned terrorism “of whatever kind and from whatever quarter it comes,” Essebsi told the 15-nation council.

“No act of terrorism has been committed from Tunisia and no Tunisian has ever been involved in such an act,” the Tunisian foreign minister said.
