PREP FOOTBALL : Magnolia Earns Third Shutout
Coach John Hangartner can’t remember exactly how long, but it has been at least a decade since a Magnolia High School football team has entered the league portion of its schedule with a 4-1 record. It has been even longer since the Sentinels’ defense has posted three consecutive shutouts.
And that is Magnolia’s status after a 23-0 nonleague victory Thursday night over Rancho Alamitos in Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.
Two fumble recoveries by Magnolia’s Mike Harris in the first nine minutes of the game allowed the Sentinels to take a 14-0 lead.
Magnolia tailback Tim Schmidt put the Sentinels ahead, 7-0, when he scored from 2 yards out with 4:37 left in the first quarter and fullback Dan Falt scored on a 13-yard run with 2:16 remaining. Falt added an 18-yard scoring run in the third quarter.
