The Heart of San Diego Marathon, in its eighth year, not only has a new name and date but the course also has been altered slightly to allow for faster times.

Now called the Holiday Bowl Heart of San Diego Marathon and 10K, because of its official connection with the Holiday Bowl Festival, is scheduled for Dec. 1.

The course, although substantially the same as in the past, no longer follows Friars Road, but instead includes a loop of South Mission Beach, said Lynn Flanagan, co-race director.

A photography exhibition covering the past 90 years of Grand Prix racing opens Saturday and continues through Jan. 5 at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.

The traveling show has been coordinated by the Long Beach Museum of Art and is being presented in part by the San Diego Automotive Museum, scheduled to open in Balboa Park next year. A champagne reception to benefit the Automotive Museum will be next Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hall of Champions.

The exhibition features photos of drivers such as Dan Gurney, Danny Sullivan and Rene Drayfus. The works of more than 30 photographers are represented.
