TORRANCE : Medical Center Awarded $51,615
The state Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development has awarded $51,615 for the Family Health Center at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which provides comprehensive medical care and maintains a residency program for physicians specializing in family practice. The health center is at 1001 W. Carson St.
Awards are made to medical training facilities working to increase the number of physicians, assistants and nurses in family practice, which the state says is the only medical specialty without the number of practitioners needed to meet the demand for services. The Harbor-UCLA program graduates five family practice physicians each year.
Budget cuts threatened the program four years ago, but it received increased funding from the state and from UCLA.
