3 More Days Given to Remove 89 Pets

Judge Carol Koppel of the Victorville Municipal Court has granted a Hesperia woman an extra three days to get rid of 89 dogs and cats being kept in an illegal animal shelter on her property.

Two weeks ago, Koppel ordered Colleen Snyder, 34, to empty her pens by Nov. 1 after San Bernardino County officials determined that the shelter violated residential zoning laws.

Snyder argued that she needed more time to round up volunteers to help move the animals elsewhere. Snyder and Rayleen Owens, 44, of Apple Valley, are known as “the dog ladies of the desert” because of the large numbers of stray pets they have rehabilitated and found homes for in recent years.
