‘SECOND LINES’ READINGS TO DEBUT DEC. 4
A video version of “Second Lives,” South Coast Repertory’s stage readings on immigrant experiences, will have its cable television premiere Wednesday.
Both Dimension Cable Services in Laguna Niguel and Rogers Cablesystems in Garden Grove will air “Second Lives” on that date at 9 p.m. The program will be aired again at 9 p.m. Dec. 11 and 18 by both systems.
Videovision Corp., the Mission Viejo company that produced the “Second Lives” video, said KOCE-TV, the Orange County public broadcasting station, is considering an airing of the program early next year.
The video version incorporates a music score by Diane King and documentary footage of refugee arrivals and other immigrant scenes with the original readings. Featured are the four members of SCR’s original 1984 touring production: Kathryn Johnson, August Lobato, Marie Masuda and Russell Terry.
Material for the readings were compiled by Michael Dixon and Valerie Smith from interviews with recent immigrants. Among the countries represented by the immigrants are Vietnam, Mexico, Chile, Pakistan and the Soviet Union.
