From Reuters
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Nine black miners were killed and eight are still missing after a rock fall Wednesday two miles underground at a South African gold mine, the company said Thursday.
A spokesman said four bodies were brought to the surface Thursday at a mine at Borksburg, owned by the East Rand Proprietary Mines. Five bodies were recovered Wednesday and rescuers were working Thursday to find the missing miners.
More than 10,000 miners have died in South Africa mines in the last 20 years.
