Community College Roundup : Freshmen Lead Rancho Santiago
Rancho Santiago Community College won its own basketball tournament Saturday, defeating the Pomona Pitzer junior varsity, 96-83 in Santa Ana.
The Dons (3-0) were led by freshman Howard Cole’s 23 points and 9 rebounds. Freshmen Brent Martin (21 points), Eric Schurman (20 points) and Mark Moses (19 points) led a second-half surge that turned a close game into an easy win.
In Lee Tournament action:
Cypress 60, Lee 53--The Chargers (2-3) defeated the host team in the final game of the round-robin tournament in Texas.
Sophomore guard Bill Dobbs scored 13 points and Paul Horn added 8 for Cypress. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
In nonconference action:
Orange Coast 69, San Diego Mesa 56--The Pirates defeated the Olympians in Costa Mesa.
Sophomore Joe Seager led OCC (3-0) with 14 points while freshman Mike Kelly had 8 points, 9 assists and 5 steals. San Diego Mesa is 0-3.
