Alan Krichman announced his immediate resignation Monday as a governor of the Palomar Community College District so he can spend more time with his family and his expanding Escondido business.

Krichman has been on the college’s board of governors for eight years, and his term was to have expired last month. But, in accordance with a new state law, it was extended to November, 1986, to hold the college’s elections at the same time as statewide elections.

Krichman had said at the time of his first election that he did not want to serve for more than eight years.

The college board will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to decide whether to fill the vacancy by appointment or by special election, at a cost of about $30,000.
