Eighty-five bales of marijuana, worth an estimated $1.25 million, were discovered stuffed in a gas tanker Tuesday, police said.
The driver of the tanker, a Mexican man, was still being questioned Tuesday evening, and police declined to identify him. He had not been charged with a crime, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Robinson said the truck was seen about 1 a.m. in an alley in the 2600 block of Newton Avenue. A search warrant was obtained Tuesday afternoon, and officers approaching the truck were attacked by two pit bulldogs that ran at them from the backyard of a house, Robinson said.
