State Volleyball Playoffs : Newport Harbor Girls Advance to Final
The Newport Harbor High School girls’ volleyball team defeated Los Altos of Palo Alto, 15-12, 13-15, 15-8, 13-15, 15-13, in a State Tournament semifinal at Palo Alto Tuesday night.
The Sailors advance to Saturday’s final at Golden West, where they will meet Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach for the state championship.
A wild-card entry in the state playoffs, the Sailors were led to the victory over the CIF-Northern Section champions by middle blocker Tracy Krueger, who had 31 kills.
Sarah Allison added 14 kills, 4 blocks, and 2 aces. Lara Asper also had 10 kills and 4 blocks for the Sailors.
Newport Harbor (22-1) will meet the only team to defeat it this season, Mira Costa, which downed the Sailors in the Southern Section 5-A final earlier this season.
