Newest Community in County Gets Zip Code
The U. S. Postal Service has approved a zip code and mailing address for Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County’s newest community.
A ceremony was held marking the approval with horseback riders, pretending to be the Pony Express, delivering the first mail. President Reagan, Gov. George Deukmejian and U.S. Sens. Alan Cranston and Pete Wilson sent congratulatory letters, and Orange County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission members were in attendance along with Postal Service officials and the developer’s representatives.
Santa Margarita Co. of San Juan Capistrano is developing the 5,000-acre project, which is expected to provide 26,000 jobs and a substantial variety of housing for up to 50,000 people.
Phase 1 of the 15- to 20-year development is expected to open in late spring.
