Gunmen Slay 18 Over 2 Days in Colombia
BOGOTA, Colombia — Unidentified gunmen killed 18 youths with single shots through the head over the last two days in Medellin, Colombia’s second-largest city, police said Sunday.
Most of the victims had criminal records. Their bodies were found scattered around Medellin, some 150 miles northwest of Bogota, police said.
Meanwhile, inn Uraba, a banana-growing region of Antioquia province, eight narcotics policemen were killed and 10 were wounded when two police trucks were attacked with grenades and mortar fire, police said.
They said it was not clear whether the Saturday ambush, some 300 miles north of Bogota, was the work of leftist guerrillas or drug traffickers.
