Graduate Student Gets Grant
Valerie Samson, a Ph.D. candidate in music composition at UCLA’s College of Fine Arts, has won the $1,000 John Lennon Award for graduate students in music. She will use the award to produce a half-hour videotape about bamboo mouth organs from China and Japan.
The Meredith Willson Scholarship in music has been awarded to Laura Koenig, a UCLA sophomore specializing in flute. As a freshman, she won the American Youth Symphony Award.
