Bell : Armory Traded for Land
Bell and the federal government have completed a deal in which the city built a National Guard armory in exchange for federally owned property on the same street.
The City Council last week turned over the new armory on Bandini Boulevard in exchange for the old armory site, 6.4 acres east of Atlantic Boulevard.
City Administrator Byron Woosley said such a swap has not been done anywhere else in the country. The city built the armory on federal property in exchange for the nearby land. The $1.9-million armory, which will be used to train guardsmen, was completed in September.
The old armory site will be developed for commercial or industrial uses, he said.
