Free Taxi Rides, Coffee Available to Holiday Revelers
Two free taxi services and free coffee will be available to New Year’s Eve revelers who celebrate with too much champagne tonight.
To get a ride home from a bar or restaurant, call Taxitime, a service sponsored by beer distributors and two cab companies, Yellow Cab Co. of North Orange County and Orange Coast Yellow Cab at (714) 546-1311, or CareCab, sponsored by a Santa Ana health services firm, at (714) 972-3902.
Rides of up to 20 miles are free but are not available to people at private parties.
Forest Lawn mortuaries will continue its 18-year-old tradition of offering free coffee to tired or slightly tipsy drivers on New Year’s Eve.
The service is for “motorists who have had too much to drink, in hopes of relieving the riding peril . . . on New Year’s Eve,” said Dick Fisher, spokesman for the mortuaries. He said coffee will be offered from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the reception area of the Forest Lawn mortuary in Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave.
Fisher said about 150 people stopped at the four Forest Lawn facilities last year.
