Monterey Park : Racial Cooperation Urged
The Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce has initiated a project called “Partners in Progress” to improve relations between Asian-Americans and others in the community. The chamber has mailed letters to community leaders inviting them to suggest ways to increase understanding and cultural respect and asking service clubs and other organizations to hold meetings focusing on the need for cooperation among racial and ethnic groups. The letters were signed by Marie Purvis, chamber president; George Ricci, vice president; and Anthony J. Chien, chairman of the chamber’s Asian-American Committee.
