Connie Francis Put in Mental Hospital at Request of Police
MIAMI — Connie Francis was taken to a mental hospital at the request of police, and hospital officials refused to say today whether she is still there or what prompted the hospitalization.
The 47-year-old singer was taken from the Grand Bay Hotel to the Miami Mental Health Center Tuesday by fire rescue officers at the request of Miami police.
Her career was interrupted in 1974 when she was raped in a motel room. She did not perform in public for seven years afterward, and has been treated for manic depression since then.
She was committed to a Fort Lauderdale psychiatric hospital in 1983 by her father.
Last Dec. 3, she was escorted off an airliner after she refused to stop smoking while the plane was refueled in Atlanta. She was charged with battery and criminal trespass and released on $1,100 bond.
