San Diego
A San Diego City Council committee Monday gave “conceptual” approval to naming a major city street for slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
The committee voted unanimously to forward the idea to the full City Council for approval on Jan. 13. One week later, Jan. 20, the federal government will observe the first national holiday to commemorate King’s birthday.
The committee’s action Monday did not include any recommendations of which street should be renamed.
