Japan will speed up action on patent approvals.
Responding to foreign complaints about long delays in patent approvals, Japan will introduce a new system in February reducing to one year from from three the average time needed for approval of emergency applications, a patent official said. The speedup will apply to items that are already in the production stage or will be within six months, said Tadashi Ishii of the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
