Boy, 5, Killed by Hit-Run Driver; Suspect Turns Himself In
A 5-year-old Tujunga boy who was crossing a street near his home was killed Wednesday by a hit-and-run motorist who turned himself in to police about three hours after the accident, Los Angeles police said.
The boy, Brian Reich, was crossing Summitrose Street near Plainview Avenue about noon when he was struck by a van going east on Summitrose, Officer Mark Snyder said. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Snyder said.
The driver got out of his van, told witnesses to call an ambulance and then sped off, Snyder said.
William E. Dummitt, 20, of Tujunga turned himself in to police about 3 p.m.
He was being held in Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of felony manslaughter in lieu of $11,671 bail, Snyder said.
