Toads, Newts Have Right-of-Way on British Roads
United Press International
LONDON — Warning: The life you save may be a toad’s.
About 200 traffic signs are going up across England this year urging motorists to “help a toad across the road.”
The sign--a red triangle with a picture of a toad on a white background--is the Fauna & Flora Preservation Society’s idea to protect the little animals, particularly during their March 1-May 31 migration, often across roads.
The society says it saved 50,000 toads last year, as well as hundreds of frogs and newts.
