Businessman to Run Against Rep. Wright
FORT WORTH — Businessman Don McNiel Tuesday announced that he will oppose House Democratic leader Jim Wright in his bid for reelection.
“Essentially, we’re opposed to Jim Wright’s big spending,” said McNiel, a Republican who has never held political office. “He is soft on crime . . . and he votes for higher taxes and more spending in every instance. That’s just not keeping with the mood of the country.”
Wright has represented the 12th Congressional District, which includes the northern two-thirds of Texas, since 1954.
