Navratilova, Mandlikova and Shriver Win

WORCESTER, Mass. — Martina Navratilova, Hana Mandlikova and Pam Shriver reeled off first-round victories Thursday night in a $250,000 women’s tennis tournament.
Navratilova, the No. 1-seeded player, routed Rafaella Reggi of Italy, 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Mandlikova beat Melissa Gurney, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, and No. 3 Shriver eliminated Sandra Cecchini of Italy, 6-3, 6-0.
In the only upset, Dianne Fromholtz Balestrat of Australia, making a comeback at 29, ousted No. 5 Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1, in a second-round match.
