A Soviet member of the International Olympic Committee indicated that the Soviet Union plans to send a team to South Korea for the 1988 Olympic Games, even though it would have preferred a different site.

Konstantin Andrianov, answering questions from readers in the newspaper Sovietskaya Rossiya, stopped short of saying outright that a Soviet team would compete.

But he noted that most facilities for the Olympics in the South Korean capital of Seoul already are complete and that the government has agreed to guarantee the security of all competitors.
