Patty Reno of the host club was awarded the E.E. Manning Trophy for winning the class with the largest number of entries in the regatta held Saturday and Sunday at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. Reno won the Sabot A Class with 27 entries.

The Manning Trophy is the oldest dinghy award in Southern California, dating back to 1935 when it was dedicated for a regatta for undecked dinghies. The regatta is now sponsored by the Southern California Yachting Assn. and includes dinghies up to 16 feet.

Nine classes turned out for the 1986 regatta. Second largest class was the Snipe with 25 entries, won by Dave Chapin of Alamitos Bay YC.
