Orange County Prep Basketball : Call, Reed Lead No. 2 Capistrano Valley Past El Toro
Nathan Call scored 26 points and Shawn Reed added 20 to lead second-ranked Capistrano Valley High School to an 85-75 South Coast League boys’ basketball victory over El Toro Monday at El Toro.
The Cougars (7-0 in league, 19-2 overall) led throughout the game, taking a 16-point lead early in the third quarter. But the Chargers (4-3, 10-9) came back to trail by only 67-62 after Bret Johnson made a jump shot late in the third quarter.
Johnson, a sophomore guard, scored 16 points. Jeff Stone led the Chargers with 18. El Toro outrebounded Capistrano Valley 32-28, but the Chargers had 12 turnovers compared to the Cougars’ 1.

Irvine 69, Laguna Hills 60--Center Shawn Patchell scored 20 points, 12 in the first quarter, to lead the Vaqueros to the win at Laguna Hills. Irvine (4-3, 12-10) outscored the Hawks, 16-8, in the first period and were not threatened for the rest of the game. Laguna Hills (1-6, 3-13) was led by Chris Sheff who scored 16 points.

IRVINE (69)--Patchell 20, Tamura 4, Littler 4, Herring 12, Moceri 2, Raye 9, Snoddy 4, Norton 2, Oden 10, Balantyne 2.
Mission Viejo 79, San Clemente 60--Jeff Herdman scored 23 points and Tim Knowles added 20 to lead the Diablos to the win at home. Mission Viejo (6-1, 16-5) outscored the Tritons, 21-14, in the first quarter as Knowles scored 10 points and Herdman had 9. Herdman made 8 of 9 field goal attempts, and 7 of 7 free throws. Knowles made 7 of 10 shots, and 6 of 6 free throws.
SAN CLEMENTE (60)--Wade 16, Stedman 12, Love 8, Valdez 6, Koepsell 8, Burrows 6, Christianson 1, Fisher 1, Jones 2.

St. Margarets 81, Walden 30--Center David Westendorf scored a season-high 22 points and had 7 rebounds to lead the Tartans (5-1, 9-6) to this easy win at Walden. Brothers Eric and Mark Flather each scored 14 points.

Bolsa Grande 58, Trabuco Hills 17--Guard Doreen Day scored 20 points and Caroline Matney and Roseann Flores each added 10 to lead the Matadors to this one-sided nonleague win at home. Bolsa Grande (7-8) led 28-10 at halftime.
