‘Hope for Poorest of Poor’
I couldn’t agree more with your editorial (Jan. 13), “Hope for Poorest of Poor,” endorsing the United States’ involvement with the second replenishment of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). That organization’s commitment to helping people become self-sufficient for their lifetime and beyond makes a contribution to us all.
As citizens, our involvement with IFAD, however, must be met on two more levels: One, that we insist on a pledge toward additional funding for the Special Program for Sub-Saharan Africa (made necessary by the 50% chop in overall funding for IFAD), so that their work there can meet the need, and two, that we as citizens make sure our representatives in Congress do our bidding by following through with these pledges to an organization that works for us all.
It is our money and good will used wisely, and the quality of their lives which you bring together through your endorsement of IFAD.
