Countywide : Employers Win Awards for Hiring the Disabled
Eleven county employers have been named to receive awards commending their efforts to provide jobs for developmentally disabled adults.
The Employer Recognition Award, which will be presented Feb. 12 at the Irvine Hilton, is a new program of the federal government’s Administration on Developmental Disabilities. According to officials at UC Irvine, which coordinates the federal agency’s efforts locally, the Developmental Disabilities Act of 1984 generated 25,000 jobs that year and about 50,000 in 1985.
Dr. Jean Elder, who heads the federal program, will present the awards during the 1-to-4 p.m. program, which is open to the public. There are about 5,000 developmentally disabled adults in Orange County, according to Cathy Pearce, UCI administrator.
The firms to be honored are Naugles Inc., Jim Click Ford, Allergan Plastics, the City of Huntington Beach, Carl Karcher Enterprises, Pizza Hut Inc., G A S Investments, Goodwill Industries, Honda Heaven, All Metal Processing and the California Highway Patrol in Santa Ana.
