A Sun-Diamond audit confirmed overpayments.
The audit of Sun-Diamond Growers accounts revealed $43 million in overpayments to raisin and walnut growers in the co-op. Sun-Maid raisin growers were overpaid $27.3 million, and Diamond Walnut growers received $15.7 million more than they should have in recent years, acting President Bill Allewelt Jr. said. The accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. was brought in last December after the co-op began finding evidence of massive overpayments on its books. Sun-Diamond plans to issue a full report on the financial audit to members in about two weeks.
